March 1, 2014: Deputy Special Representative for Afghanistan and Pakistan Ambassador Beth Jones inaugurated the Public Policy Research and Resource Center (CPPG) at the Forman Christian College (FCC) Lahore on March 01, 2014. The U.S. delegation also included Deputy Chief of Mission Tom Williams and Consul General Nina Fite who attended the inauguration ceremony event.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis project is a powerful reminder of the U.S. commitment to help foster evidence-based policy discussion and formulation in Pakistan,\u201d stated Ambassador Beth Jones of the Office of the Special Representative of Afghanistan and Pakistan. She said, \u201cThe establishment of this center is an important step towards promoting research on policy and governance.\u201d<\/p>\n
Forman Christian College was founded in 1864 by American missionaries and nationalized by the Government of the Punjab in 1972. FCC has produced distinguished alumni two Presidents of Pakistan, two Prime Ministers of Pakistan, a Prime Minister of India, the first Chief Justice of Pakistan, as well as numerous ambassadors, chief ministers, governors, generals, admirals, speakers of National Assembly and key business leaders. The College currently comprises 22 academic departments, one of which is the Centre for Public Policy and Governance (CPPG).<\/p>\n
Forman Christian College Lahore\u2019s Department of Centre for Public Policy and Governance (FCCU – CPPG) received a grant of USD 249,766 from USAID\u2019s Small Grants & Ambassador\u2019s Fund Program in October 2012 to facilitate evidence-based policy formulation in Pakistan through establishment of a Policy Think Tank.<\/p>\n
The Resource Center, established through USAID\u2019s Small Grants and Ambassador\u2019s Fund Program, supports and promotes empirical research in Pakistan. The center is a consolidated venue to provide students, researchers and policymakers with literature, data, and training facilities to pave the way for informed decision-making at all levels. The center has already digitized official documents, books, journals, and other research materials under one roof and has organized 10 policy dialogues, two seminars, and completed two research projects. The center plans to offer individual and institutional membership to those interested in participating in the formulation of public policy.<\/p>\n
