February 21, 2013: USAID\u2019s Small Grants and Ambassador\u2019s Fund Program, along with three other USAID Project organizations working in Pakistan, participated in the festivities of celebrating 237th Independence Day of the United States of America, organized by the U. S Consulate General Lahore on February 21, 2013.<\/p>\n
This year U.S. Independence Day was celebrated on President’s Day which marks the birth of George Washington, the first President of the United States and the most revered of the United States’ founding fathers. The American people also use this occasion to pay tribute to numerous other great American presidents, including the 16th President of the United States, Abraham Lincoln, who was also born in February.<\/p>\n
During the event Consul General Nina Fite, Punjab Chief Minister Mian Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif, Chair of the U.S. Senate Foreign Relations Committee Senator Robert Menendez and the U.S. Ambassador Richard Olson cut the cake to mark the U.S. National Day celebrations. The event started with speeches, followed by refreshments. Guests visited the USAID’s program information booths and showed keen interest in the wonderful endeavor taken by USAID towards improving and empowering grassroots organizations and community groups of Pakistan.<\/p>\n
