LAHORE: US Consul General Nina Fite honoured teachers who completed a training course that will ensure that more children have the opportunity to attend mainstream schools.<\/p>\n
Consul General Fite was on hand at the Rising Sun and Education and Welfare Society in Lahore on Saturday for a certificate distribution ceremony for 30 teachers who successfully completed a US Agency for International Development- (USAID) supported course in special education.<\/p>\n
\u201cI am proud that our US assistance supported an initiative that reaffirms the right to education of every individual here in the Punjab and across Pakistan,\u201d <\/strong>the consul general remarked. The teachers were the fifth graduating class of a yearlong USAID-funded programme that will train 750 teachers in the province.<\/p>\n The training equips teachers with the skills to educate, manage and support the learning process of children with special needs. The training is a step towards ensuring that every child has access to education. \u201cThis program reaffirms our commitment to upholding the rights of persons with disabilities and providing all individuals with equal opportunities,\u201d<\/strong> Fite said.<\/p>\n The main purpose of the US Ambassador\u2019s Fund Programme, through which the programme was funded, is to directly support community-developed initiatives. Fite remarked that the Lahore US Consulate General\u2019s many grant and programme mechanisms have and will continue to support urgent community needs and opportunities in Punjab.<\/p>\n Also present at the ceremony, as chief guest, was NETSOL Chairman and American Business Forum President Saleem Ghauri.
