The community of Gulmit, Tehsil Headquarters of Gojal valley, today started levelling of ground for construction of a Al-Amyn Girls Hostel. The ground-breaking ceremony was held in presence of hundreds of men, women and young people of the disaster hit village. According to details, the United Stated Agency for International Development (USAID) has provided around 9.1 million rupees as grant for construction of the hostel, through National Rural Support Programme(NRSP).<\/p>\n
The project is being implemented by Gulmit Educational and Social Welfare Society, the organization behind Al-Amyn Model School.<\/p>\n
On completion the hostel will be able to host up to 40 female students from across the region in a purpose-built building.<\/p>\n
The need for construction of this hostel was being felt for long as female students from the Gojal valley were forced to go to distant cities and towns in pursuit of quality secondary level education.<\/p>\n
It is pertinent to note that the community of Gulmit has provided land, worth 2 million rupees, for construction of the hostel. Total cost of the project has been estimated at around 10.2 million rupees.<\/p>\n
