KARACHI: Make A Wish Foundation Pakistan in collaboration with the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) granted wishes of five children suffering from life threatening diseases. Wishes were granted at a graceful ceremony held here on Friday evening at the office of the foundation.

Acting Consul General of the United States in Karachi Meghan Moore while speaking at the ceremony said that such type of work coloured the life of fatally ill children. The Acting Consul General said granting wishes provided happiness to ill children.

The US Consulate’s Public Affairs Officer Andie DeArment told Daily Times that smile on the face of children, particularly those suffering from life threatening diseases, was a great joy and happiness for her. She hailed the role of the foundation and said that special surprise gifts would also be provided to these children by the US Consulate in Karachi.

USAID’s representative and Education Management Specialist Zulfiqar Ali said on the occasion that the USAID had committed to the foundation to grant $34,000 to fulfill the wishes of 50 children in a year. He said that the amount would be granted under the ambassador’s fund.

“Though we joined later, I am very much happy to join hands for such a pious purpose,” he said while talking to Daily Times. President Foundation Ishtiaq Baig welcomed the prestigious guests, including Adviser to Prime Minister on Textile Ikhtiar Baig, her wife, renowned former Olympian Islahudin, philanthropist Salahudin Hayder and parents of affected children.

On the occasion Maha Noor, 9 was suffering from kidney disease, was presented a doll and doll house, Sumera Pervaz 12, suffering from brain tumor, was presented with a color TV, and Barkarullah 10 suffering from blood cancer, Samer 12 heart patient and Abdul ghafoor 7 also suffering from heart disease were presented with rechargeable motorbike, cell phone and video game respectively.

Besides this, an extraordinary wish of an extraordinary child was also granted with the support of the US GC. Akif, 13, had expressed wish to become famous. Now the Consulate has put his picture on its web pages and is managing to introduce the child’s picture to 40,000 people.
