Women of District Ghizer, Gilgit Baltistan province remain at a disadvantage in terms of economic empowerment. Limited by difficult geographical terrain and harsh weather conditions, restricted by social & cultural norms, and devoid of opportunities for developing marketable skills and then utilizing them for improving their livelihood, financial independence remains a dream for a vast majority.
USAID Small Grants and Ambassador’s Fund Program awarded financial assistance to Karakorum Associates for Educational & Economic Development (KAEED) for undertaking “Shawl-Making for Development of Entrepreneurship for Women” project. The project has provided livelihood opportunities to 180 Women belonging to Union Council Ishkoman in a 10-month through provision of training in two trades – Spinning to 108 women, & Shawl Making to 72 women; Giving of relevant equipment; Formation of Entrepreneurship Groups; and setting up of market linkages.
